Sai bhakti — a tradition that transcends formal religious boundaries; embraced by Hindus and Muslims alike
Dedicated to Sai Baba of Shirdi — the saint of Shirdi, Maharashtra, whose teachings of love, faith, and service are universal
Sai Sandhya is an evening devotional program of Sai bhajans, kirtan, and the sharing of Sai's leelas (miracle-stories) — a gathering that carries the particular warmth of Sai Baba's own spirit. Where other traditions are defined by their deity or their scripture, Sai Sandhya is defined by its atmosphere: intimate, loving, full of stories, and shot through with Sai's quiet assurance that he is always present for those who remember him.
Sai Baba's most famous teaching was simple: "Shraddha aur Saburi" — faith and patience. A Sai Sandhya is a gathering around that faith. Devotees come to express gratitude for his miracles, to seek his blessing at an important threshold, to fulfil a promise made in a moment of desperation, or simply because Thursday has arrived and the heart wants to sit in his presence. In Sai's tradition, no prayer goes unheard and no devotee is turned away.
Led by Sai bhajan singers experienced in the Sai repertoire — songs that address Baba directly, tell his stories, and carry his devotees into a state of peace. Sometimes the program includes narration of Sai's leelas between bhajans.
Devotees sing along to bhajans, join in aarti, offer flowers and coconut, and listen to Sai's leelas. The atmosphere is warm and loving — devotees often share their own personal experiences of Sai's grace.
Sai Sandhya is specifically Sai-centered, drawing on the unique devotional tradition of Shirdi Sai Baba. Its atmosphere is distinctly intimate and story-filled compared to other bhajan evenings — the sharing of Sai's leelas is as central as the music itself.
Thursday (Guruwaar) is Sai Baba’s day, the most common evening for a Sai Sandhya. Flowers, a coconut and a lamp at the altar are traditional offerings.

Sai Baba of Shirdi was a saint who lived in Shirdi, Maharashtra until 1918. His teachings of love, compassion, and the unity of all religions drew devotees from every faith. He is revered by both Hindus and Muslims. His most famous teaching was 'Shraddha aur Saburi' — faith and patience.
Thursday (Guruwaar) is traditionally Sai Baba's day — a day he is said to be especially responsive to prayer. Many devotees observe a Thursday fast and arrange Sai Sandhya on this day as a regular act of devotion.
Sai Sandhya includes bhajans that address Baba directly, praise his miracles, and express the devotee's longing for his presence. The program typically ends with the Sai Aarti — Aarti Sai Manhar — and the distribution of prasad.
Sai Baba himself transcended all religious boundaries — he lived in a mosque, was worshipped by Hindus as a saint, and is beloved across faiths. A Sai Sandhya is open to all, and this universal welcome is very much in the spirit of Baba himself.
Thursdays, Sai's Mahasamadhi day (Vijay Dashami), Griha Pravesh, birthdays, fulfilment of a vow, or any occasion where the family wishes to invite Sai's blessing. For devoted Sai families, Thursday Sandhyas are a regular weekly practice.
