Dedicated to Lord Shiva — Mahadev, Bholenath, Shankar, Neelkanth
Shiv Sandhya is an evening of devotion to Lord Shiva — bhajans, Shiv Chalisa, Amritwani, and the chanting of Om Namah Shivaya, offered in love to the destroyer of ego and the giver of liberation. Shiva's devotees are known for the depth of their surrender — and a Shiv Sandhya carries that quality. These gatherings are at once peaceful and powerful, grounded in the stillness that Shiva himself embodies.
Shiva is called Bholenath — "the simple-hearted one" — the deity who is most quickly pleased and most easily moved by genuine devotion. A Shiv Sandhya is arranged to seek his blessing, to mark Shravan Somvar (sacred Mondays in the month of Shravan), to fulfil a vow, or to simply spend an evening in his presence. Where other traditions celebrate the beauty or might of God, Shiv Sandhya celebrates his mercy — his willingness to bestow liberation on anyone who calls on him sincerely.
Led by a Shiva bhajan group or temple singer experienced in the Shaiva devotional repertoire — Shiv Chalisa, Om Namah Shivaya chanting, Amritwani, and bhajans praising Mahadev.
Devotees chant "Om Namah Shivaya," sing along to bhajans, join aarti, and may perform abhishek before or after the program.
Shiv Sandhya is Shiva-centric and carries the particular quality of Shaiva devotion — meditative, surrendered, and powerful. It is best not to use this label for a general mixed-deity bhajan evening.
Shiv Sandhyas are most often held on Mondays, especially in the month of Shravan, and on Mahashivratri. Plan early for Sawan Mondays.

Shiv Sandhya is a devotional evening program in honour of Lord Shiva — bhajans, Shiv Chalisa, Om Namah Shivaya chanting, and aarti. It is a time of stillness and surrender to Mahadev, arranged with love and reverence.
Monday (Somvar) is Shiva's day — traditionally, Lord Shiva is said to be most responsive to prayers offered on Mondays. Shravan Somvars (Mondays in the holy month of Shravan) are especially auspicious, and many families arrange Shiv Sandhya on these days.
Om Namah Shivaya is the Panchakshara — the five-syllable mantra of Shiva. It is considered one of the most potent mantras in the Hindu tradition, capable of purifying the mind, dissolving obstacles, and drawing the chanter into Shiva's grace.
Yes, absolutely. Mahashivratri is one of the most auspicious nights of the year for Shiva worship, and a Shiv Sandhya is a beautiful way to mark it. Many families extend the program through the night on Mahashivratri.
Shravan Somvars, Mahashivratri, housewarmings in Shiva-devoted families, Pradosh Vrat days, birthdays, or any occasion where the family wishes to seek Lord Shiva's blessing.
A typical Shiv Sandhya runs 1.5–3 hours in the evening. For Mahashivratri or special occasions, the program can be extended.
