Chaitanya Hari Prabhu

Chaitanya Hari Prabhu, also known as Chaitanya Hari Das, is a Hare Krishna kirtan leader heard at the largest kirtan festivals in India and the Gulf. He leads the maha-mantra seated at the harmonium, and festival recordings of his kirtans carry titles like Melodious Kirtan.

Mayapur in West Bengal is where he has led most often. He sang the maha-mantra at the Mayapur Kirtan Mela in 2015 and has returned in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2023 and 2025. In 2017 he led the kirtan on the adhivasa day of the Radhastami Radha Prem Dan Kirtan Utsava, organised by the Mayapur Chandras. That recording is his most watched, with more than 45,000 views.

In the Gulf, he is a regular at Kirtan Rasa, an annual festival run by a kirtan community based in the Middle East, with twelve hours of kirtan a day. He led kirtan there in 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024, before a community of more than 2,000 chanters, with a garland around his neck and the hall singing every line back.

He also sang at the International Kirtan Festival in Mumbai, where Kirtan Chants recorded his sessions and released them as an album. A photo from that festival shows him playing the mridanga as well. Kirtan Chants also released his set from a 16-hour kirtan on Pandava Nirjala Ekadashi.

He does not run a channel of his own that we could find. His kirtans are shared by the festivals and by fellow kirtaniyas: Kirtan Rasa, Mayapur TV, Kirtan Chants and Janeshwar Das, who posted his 2020 kirtan.

Chaitanya Hari Prabhu sits at the harmonium, garlanded, and often sings with his eyes closed. He sings a line of the maha-mantra and the hall answers, and at festivals the people around him sing with raised arms. His kirtans are made for long sessions: he leads at festivals that run twelve hours a day and at a 16-hour Ekadashi kirtan. At Kirtan Rasa a flute player has sat beside him.
