The story
Swarupa Damodar Das leads Hare Krishna kirtan and sings Vaishnava bhajans in Hindi and Bengali, and he is a regular kirtan voice at ISKCON festivals. Videos of his kirtans on Hare Krsna TV and Mayapur TV have been watched hundreds of thousands of times.
He has been invited to lead at some of the largest kirtan festivals. In 2019 he sang on Day 3 of the Mayapur Kirtan Mela. He led at Kirtan Rasa in Dubai in 2022, 2023 and 2024, and at Kirtan Fest Bahrain in 2025. In July 2025 he sang at the Prem Kirtan Mela at ISKCON Rohini in Delhi.
In India he is a regular at Harinam Utsav, the all-day festival of the Holy Name. Recordings from Govardhan Eco Village in Wada show him singing bhajans such as Doyal Nitai Chaitanya Bole and Radha Krishna Prana Mora, which are among his most-watched videos.
His own YouTube channel has about 1,850 subscribers and carries kirtans, bhajans and talks from ISKCON Vrindavan, Govardhan Eco Village and festivals. A second channel, SWARAS, has about 1,160 subscribers.
His kirtan is led from the microphone, with devotees singing back and dancing around him. It is the kind of kirtan that builds slowly and ends with the whole hall singing together.
What a kirtan with Swarupa is like
A kirtan with Swarupa Damodar Das starts quietly and grows. He sits at the microphone and sings the Hare Krishna mantra line by line, and the hall sings it back. In his Hare Krsna TV Harinam Utsav video, devotees behind him are dancing with their arms raised. He also sings well-loved bhajans in Bengali and Hindi, so a programme can move between the maha-mantra and songs that elders know. Expect a joyful, devotional evening in which everyone sings.
