Vraj Gopal Das

Vraj Gopal Das is a Hare Krishna kirtan leader known from ISKCON Chowpatty, the Radha Gopinath temple in South Mumbai. He is also listed as Vraj Gopal Prabhu. His name appears most clearly at the temple's annual Kirtan Fest, the festival where kirtan leaders take turns to lead the hall.

He led the Day 1 kirtan at Kirtan Fest 2019. Hare Krsna TV filmed it as a melodious kirtan of about 32 minutes, and the ISKCON Desire Tree audio archive lists the same Day 1 session as an MP3. A year later he sang again on Day 1 of Kirtan Fest 2020, a Hare Krishna kirtan of about 25 minutes. Both videos have been watched more than five thousand times.

In the 2019 festival graphic he sits at a harmonium in the temple hall, with listeners packed behind him. In the 2020 video the hall is full of women and men singing the response with their eyes closed and hands folded. This is congregational kirtan in the ISKCON style: the leader sings a line of the maha-mantra, and everybody answers.

Nothing more about him is published. We could not find an interview, a personal website, a social profile or a stage biography, so where he comes from, who his teachers are and what he does at the temple today are not yet known. His recordings are only from Mumbai festivals so far. If you want him for a family kirtan, ask us and we will check whether he takes private bookings.

A kirtan with Vraj Gopal Das is a temple-hall kirtan led from the harmonium. In the Kirtan Fest 2019 graphic he sings into a microphone with his eyes closed, and in the 2020 video a packed hall sings back with folded hands. The sessions run from about 25 to 32 minutes. Expect Hare Krishna call-and-response, with the room joining in line by line, and a steady build rather than a short bhajan.
