Antim ardas or prayer meeting

A gentle guide for families arranging kirtan at an antim ardas or prayer meeting.

As soon as the date is known

Choose the venue: a gurdwara, temple, hall or home
Book the kirtan artists and share the programme time
Ask for gentle, consoling shabads or bhajans, and share any the departed loved
Share the date, time and venue with family and friends

The day before

Prepare a framed photograph with a garland and a lamp
Arrange white sheets for seating, and chairs for elders
Arrange tea or langar for after the prayers

On the day

Ask one relative to receive the artists and guide them
Keep a condolence book at the entrance, if your family wishes

After

Thank the artists and settle their offering
Note the date for the first barsi, if your family observes one
