Kirtan at a wedding

Giving the kirtan its own place among the wedding functions, from the pheras to the sangeet.

One to two months before

Choose which function gets kirtan: the morning of the wedding, the pheras, or an evening before
Book the artist early: wedding season dates go fast
For an Anand Karaj, speak to the gurdwara: they guide the ceremony and the ragi jatha who sings the laavan
Agree the duration, number of musicians, travel and offering in writing

The week before

Share the full day’s schedule with the artist, including the muhurat
Introduce the artist to the sound and decor teams: agree mics, a low platform and power
Send the bhajans or shabads the couple and family would like

On the day

Name one family member as the artist’s point of contact
Keep a 15-minute buffer before the kirtan: weddings run late
Keep water and a quiet room for the artists to rest

After

Thank the artists and settle their offering
