Home kirtan or satsang

Everything for an evening of kirtan in your living room, from inviting the sangat to serving prasad.

Two to three weeks before

Fix the date and a start time, and how long the kirtan should run (an hour to two is usual at home)
Book the artist and confirm how many musicians are coming
Agree the offering for the artists, travel and timing in one written message
Invite guests with the exact start time and the address

The week before

Send the artist any bhajans or shabads your family would love to hear
Choose the room: clear furniture so everyone can sit on the floor, facing the altar
Arrange durries or clean white sheets, plus a few chairs at the back for elders
Decide what prasad you will offer and who will prepare it

On the day

Set up the altar with flowers, a lamp and incense
Keep a power point and an extension board near where the artists will sit
Keep warm water for the singers, away from the AC draft
Ask everyone to put their phones on silent before the kirtan begins
Serve prasad after the closing aarti, then the meal

After

Thank the artists and settle their offering before they leave
Share a few photos with the guests (ask the artists before posting videos)
